The Renault electric cars on show at the WSR

20/07/2011

The French make displays numerous vehicles during the World Series by Renault meetings. These include the sports models (Mégane R.S, Clio R.S, the Mégane R.S Trophy) and saloons (Fluence, Mégane) as well as utilitarian vehicles (the Kangoo), low-cost cars (Daccia) and historic cars. This season electric vehicles are occupying an increasingly larger place in the WSR village.  In Hungary, the Kangoo ZE, the Fluence ZE and the Twizzy ZE were on display under the Dome.

For the past several years, Renault has invested a huge amount of effort in the area of electric vehicles. While the sale of such cars in relation to the internal combustion vehicles is still very low, the World Series by Renault is just the right place to display these models, which will become an increasingly common sight on our roads in the near future.

Normal combustion-engined and electric cars rubbed shoulders in the World by Renault Series village. “We wanted to display these two types of models side by side. For example, the Fluence ZE beside the Fluence, a very popular car in Hungary,” explains Gergely Rosta. “The aim is to make the public realize that they’re not just prototypes, but that electric cars are now an integral part of the Renault range.”

The French company is very active on the electric market, which is still in its infancy. “Renault is heavily involved in the development of electric vehicles. We’re preparing the changeover to electricity by accustoming the public to it step by step. We send teasers and we want the general public to get to know what it’s about.”

The arrival of electric models in the World Series by Renault has attracted the interest of the make’s partners. “EDF decided to join us in this project by helping us financially, and by associating its image to the display of electric vehicles,” continues Rosta. “For some of the companies involved it’s very important not to miss out on this big technological step forward. This new project helps us to reinforce our cooperation with our partners. It’s a win-win situation.”
