Tech 1 Racing bounces back in Hungary!

06/07/2011

The Tech 1 Racing team enjoyed a very satisfactory weekend on the Hungaroring in the fourth round of the World Series by Renault. In the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, the Toulouse-based team’s three drivers bounced back and finished just outside the top three. The cherry on the cake was that Javier Tarancon and Paul-Loup Chatin each won a race in the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS.

The Tech 1 Racing team had a busy weekend. In addition to the two races counting for the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, the Hungarian circuit hosted the fifth round of the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS. Javier Tarancon and Paul-Loup Chatin entered in both championships were faced with a 4-race weekend.

Tarancon, who had an unsuccessful weekend at the Nürburgring, upped his level of performance on the Hungaroring. In the first qualifying session for the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, the Spaniard set the third-quickest time less than 1/100s off pole. He came home fifth after a steady drive. The next day the Gravity Sport Management recruit had another excellent qualifying session finishing 24/1000s off the poleman! Paul-Loup Chatin was second in his group. Tarancon and Chatin drove good races finishing fifth and sixth confirming their return to form.

“The drivers and the team as a whole fought back well after the Nürburgring meeting,” noted Simon Abadie, the Tech 1 Racing team manager. “The overall level of the team was reflected in very good qualifying performances, and Javier missed out on pole by a whisker on two occasions. In the races, our drivers were up among the front-runners, especially Javier who bagged a couple of fifth places. He put on a good performance and scored more points than in the first half of the season.”

The performances of Miki Weckström and Paul-Loup Chatin also embellished the team’s weekend. “Miki and Paul-Loup made small mistakes that cost them points in the first race, but what’s positive is that they were battling for the podium,” continued Abadie. “On Sunday, Paul-Loup scored his best result of the season so far with sixth place. He was scrapping with Javier who came out on top three laps from the flag.”

Overall, Simon Abadie’s conclusion was a positive one after the fourth round of the Formula 2.0 Eurocup meeting. “Our three drivers all did a good job by scoring points in the second race. Thanks to this performance, Tech 1 Racing has doubled its score in the teams’ championship from twenty-eight to fifty-six. The whole team did a good job. We’re back among the front-runners on the same rhythm as the championship leaders. We’re starting off again on the front foot and we can still make a big impact in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup this season. We need a victory and our three drivers have proved they can do it!”

If the Tech 1 Racing drivers have the potential to win in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, they proved it in the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS. This series combines the Swiss and Italian Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Championships, and the fifth round took place at the Hungaroring. Tarancon and Chatin are also racing in this championship and they fulfilled all the hopes invested in them. The Spaniard won the first race, and victory in the second went to his French team-mate.

“It wasn’t easy for them as they had a qualifying session and three races on Sunday,” explained Simon Abadie. “The Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS is good for both the drivers’ and the team’s confidence. Javier and Paul-Loup’s two victories are a great performance. It’s Paul-Loup’s first win at the wheel of a FR 2.0 and Javier has taken the lead in the championship after a perfect weekend.

There are still two rounds of the ALPS to go, the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit and Spa-Francorchamps. We’ll do everything we can to win.”
