Lenzotti and Bleekemolen share the pole positions at the Nürburgring

18/06/2011

The order in the Clio Eurocup changed on every lap in qualifying as the drivers slipstreamed one another. Ronald Morien (Equipe Verchuur), Sheila Verschuur (Equipe Verschuur), Giancarlo Lenzotti (Copmposit Motorsport) and Sebastiaan Bleekemolen (Team Bleekmolen) swapped pole.

Nicolas Milan then took first place with a time of 2m 22.109s, but the Frenchman had little time to savour his exploit. Bleekemolen and Lenzotti upped the pace, and with a lap in 2m 21.105 the Italian put the issue beyond doubt and topped the time sheets in front of Milan and Mike Verschuur, just as a few drops of rain fell on the Nürburgring. The 36 Clio Cup cars pitted as the rain intensified so there was little action at the end of the session.

Lenzotti bagged his first pole position in the Eurocup and Bleekemolen, who set the second-fastest time, put himself on pole for the second race of the weekend.

Quotes :

Giancarlo Lenzotti: “I’m very happy with this pole position. After my poor showing at Spa where I set the fastest time in the race I needed to reassure myself. I’ve done it and rain isn’t a problem for me. In fact, I like it!”

Sebastiaan Bleekemolen: “I had a clear lap and qualifying went off well; it was interesting. Last week, I was racing in the Dutch Clio Cup in the rain. I enjoyed that and it was good training for this weekend. The ambience in the Eurocup is great, and mixing drivers from all over Europe is a very good thing.”
