Milan and Verschuur bag the pole positions

In the Clio Cup the driver has to know how to take full advantage of slip streaming to shine in qualifying. The Milan Competition drivers are the aces in this domain. Jordi Palomeras (Pujolaracing) was quickest early on, but Nicolas Milan, John Wartigue, Marc Guilot and Azor Duenas all overtook the Spaniard. The French team’s drivers monopolized the first four places.

However, Milan Competition could have adopted a better strategy. The team’s four drivers had made their efforts a bit too early and they watched helplessly as their rivals improved. Massimilano Pedala (Rangoni Motorsport) held pole briefly, and then Mike Verschuur knocked him off the top spot with a lap in 2m 06.256s.

Nicolas Milan went back out and set his fifth pole of the season by 1/1000s! Verschuur’s second best was good enough for pole for the second race. With twenty cars covered by a second it’ll be a ding-dong battle!

Nicolas Milan: “A thousandth! The track was better at the end of qualifying. It’s going to be a closely-contested race. Today, it’s first or nothing for me!” 

Mike Verschuur: “Finally, I set my time fairly early on, and I didn’t improve at the end. Second place and a pole was what I needed. My aim is to finish second in the general classification and best Junior. I’ll be back in the Clio Eurocup next season with the aim of winning it.”
