Zubikarai: "Our car was incredibly fast"

The day of Epic Racing at the Nurburgring was once again highlighted by a great comeback by Alex Riberas, who performed great on race 2 of the 2011 Eurocup F.Renault 2.0 event held at the German venue. The Spanish youngster hit again troubles in qualifying, held under pouring rain. after having clocked some great split laptimes, he touched with an opponent at the chicane.

As a consequence, he was forced to start from the 23rd spot and, on a wet racetrack, provided his team with an outstanding recovery drive to end up with a sensational 8th place. Thomas Jager, who moved up from go-kart racing and is now at his maiden open-wheel season, scored the 26th fastest lap in qualifying. Unfortunately, he ended up off-track and retired at lap 6. The next round of the championship will take place in two weeks at the Hungaroring, close to Budapest.
 
Imanol Zubikarai - Team Manager: "Once again we showed that our car was incredibly fast, although luck did not play in our favor. Riberas was involved in a crash on qualifying 2 too, and was forced to take off from the back of the grid. His comeback proved sensational and he really displayed how great his skill level is. We could have fought for the top spots but eventually it didn't end up that way. Jager showed lots of talent, but he still needs some experience and the weather conditions at the Nurburgring were incredibly hard to tame. Now we're looking forward to the next round in Hungary, as we hope to perform like we expect and be finally battling for the spots we belong."
