F1 reward for Robert Wickens

22/06/2011

Last weekend, Formula 1 was at the core of the World Series by Renault meeting at the Nürburgring. 50 000 people turned up at the German circuit to enjoy the eight races plus all the entertainment in the village and on the track. The Renault Sport Show with its four Mégane R.S.s thrilled the spectators as did Jean Ragnotti’s 360° spins and the Lotus Renault F1 Show.

Nicolas Prost, son of 4-time F1 World Champion, Alain, and Gravity Academy driver, entertained the public with his doughnuts. “Since my first exhibition last year, I had only one wish – to get back into an F1 car. It’s a real pleasure and you drive with the desire to give the spectators as much enjoyment as possible. The sensations you get from this car are just incredible!”

The driver who will follow Nicolas Prost in the cockpit of the Lotus Renault R30 at the next show will be Robert Wickens, the new leader of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. After a blank weekend at Monza and second place in Monaco, he bagged a big haul of points at the ‘Ring winning the first heat and finished second in race no. 2. He now has a 30-point lead in the championship and he will do the F1 show in Hungary, the reward promised to the mid-season F.R 3.5 Series leader.

“It’s fantastic,” said a delighted Canadian, the new reserve driver for the Marussia Virgin Racing team. “I’ll try and learn the maximum number of these on-track tricks to be able to do them again as soon as possible.”

Robert Wickens will have a busy weekend at the World Series by Renault meeting in Hungary, as he will try to extend his lead in the championship as well as driving an F1 in front of thousands of fans.
