Corradini: "We're quite satisfied"

24/06/2011

The World Series Renault 3.5 weekend of Epic Racing at the Nurburgring ended up with a double points finish by drivers Albert Costa, who took the 6th spot and Sten Pentus, who cruised to round out the top-10. Qualifying 2 was marred by an heavy rainfall that provided teams and drivers with some extremely tough track conditions. Costa managed to secure a spot on row 2 by clocking the fourth fastest mark while Pentus struggled to find a clear lap and settled for 21st.

Race 2 was run with dry conditions. Costa lost one place at the start and held 5th place by the end of lap 1, while Pentus opted for an early stop at lap 6 to comply with the mandatory pit-stop rule for race 2. A safety-car intervention due to a crash on the front straight helped the Estonian to catch the tails of the leading cars and while several other drivers entered the pits, he climber up to 10th. Costa, who followed the same strategy of the leaders, finished in 6th. The Spaniard is now holding the 5th place in standings with 82 points.

Claudio Corradini - Team Manager: "We're quite satisfied, but not 100% happy. Costa ended up in 6th after having taken off from the second row, while Pentus recovered a lot of spots and one championship point with a top-10 finish which seemed impossible at the end qualifying 2. The safety-car played a key role as it came out right after several drivers, including Sten, made some early stops. That enabled them to get closer to the leading pack and move on when all their opponents made their way to the pits. That's why for us it was 50/50. On one hand, Pentus managed to get some spots back, while on the other hand Costa lost one and was demoted from 5th to 6th. The weekend's balance is certainly positive for us though. In nine races entered so far, we scored 8 points finishes and that's quite a miracle considering how late the Epic Racing project started."
