Nick Catsburg new leader

Dimitri Enjalbert (Boutsen Energy Racing) after Spa-Francorchamps, Stefano Comini (Oregon Team) after Brno, Pierre Thiriet (TDS Racing) from Magny-Cours to Hockenheim – all of them have held first place in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy overall standings. But coming in Silverstone, Nick Catsburg (TDS Racing) is the new leader of the pack, just two points ahead of teammate Pierre Thiriet.

Heralded as one of this season's favourites, Nick Catsburg waited for the third to last meeting this year to nudge his way to the front in Eurocup Mégane Trophy. The Dutchman has found a rival in the form of teammate Pierre Thiriet. This is only his second season in motorsport, and the Frenchman has already scored points in every race, ending up on the podium six times with two victories to boot. So even if he has lost his lead in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy, the Vosges driver will be sure to continue to give it his all.

Nick Catsburg, an unbeatable qualifier with seven pole positions to his name this season, seems relieved to have finally taken the lead. His retirement in his first race in Brno cost  him dear, and it has taken him seven races and four victories to make up the lost ground. His two point lead is not enough for him to ease off now, though. He still has to give it his all at Silverstone to be able to tackle the grand finale in Barcelona in a relaxed frame of mind.

For TDS Racing, the main thing is to begin by clinching the Team championship as soon as possible, and then leave Nick Castburg and Pierre Thiriet to fight over the Driver championship in peace. To do that, Xavier Combet’s men have to score five points more than the Oregon Team Italians in order to guarantee a second consecutive team title.

Spurred on by his Hockenheim victory, Stefano Comini is still in with a chance for the Drivers championship in mathematical terms. But lagging behind Nick Catsburg by 32 points, the Swiss driver won’t be in for an easy ride. For his first Eurocup Mégane Trophy season, the Oregon Team driver still has to defend a spot on the final podium, as Bas Schothorst (McGregor by Equipe Verschuur) and Dimitri Enjalbert are not far behind.

For the Frenchman, who has not won since Spa-Francorchamps, nor appeared on the podium since Brno, it’s above all a question of regaining confidence as the end of season draws near. Renaud Derlot’s (Boutsen Energy Racing) impressive arrival in the Belgian team – third place twice at Hockenheim – should help Dimitri Enjalbert get back to his winning ways. At Silverstone, one of his favourite circuits where he had secured the two pole positions and walked away with two races last year, Enjalbert is aiming for first place or nothing.

As for the Gentlemen Drivers, Jean-Philippe Madonia (TDS Racing), seeking a third consecutive title in the category, was off the pace in Germany, letting Hoevert Vos (McGregor by Equipe Verschuur) get the better of him twice.  Sixteen points ahead of Raymond Coronel (MG Fashion by Verschuur) and twenty-one ahead of Hoevert Vos, the situation is in the Frenchman’s favour, but watch out - the Dutch clan hasn’t had its final say. And with the joy and good humour typical to the Gentlemen Drivers category, everyone is dreaming of knocking Jean-Philippe Madonia off his throne.
